America Recycles Day November 15th
Reduce the amount of harmful trash you discard.  The district is purchasing energy efficient light bulbs, and will continue to purchase as many products that will be long lasting and use less raw materials.

Reuse by repairing items, donating items to charity and community groups, or selling items.

Recycling is the reprocessing of materials into new products. Recycling generally prevents the waste of potentially useful materials and reduces the consumption of raw materials.

Also, you can:

Reject by being an environmentally conscientious consumer by avoiding products which are potentially harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly, are "over-packaged," or are manufactured by companies that do not have good environmental records.

React by contacting manufacturers either in writing or by calling the "800" number listed on the package to voice your concerns about excessive packaging.

We have a two-stream recycling process with Eureka Recycling.  All bottles and cans, can be put into one cart.  All paper and cardboard products, can be put into another cart.  Please check with web site to the left under Related Links; or contact the Recycling Manager if you have any questions.

Trash can be a Treasure

The Ramsey/Washington County Resource Recovery Project (Project) is a joint county project to manage waste wisely.

The garbage is processed into biomass fuel which is used for energy.  Over 7 million tons of trash have been delivered to the Resource Recovery Facility in Newport since it opened it 1987, providing over 5 million tons of renewable fuel to create electricity.

What is the County Environmental Charge?
The County Environmental Charge (CEC) is a fee assessed by licensed haulers to Ramsey County residents and businesses.  The fee is based on the amount of trash that each resident and business produces.  The intent of the CEC is to provide a more visible and direct inventive to reduce waste, and increase recycling, composting, and other waste reduction methods.
