Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where is the farm located, that picks up the food/beverage barrels?  Barthold Farms, near Anoka, Minn.

  • Who is the Food Waste Recycling Manager?  Jennifer Carpenter

  • Who is participating in this program?  All Saint Paul Public Elementary schools; and implementation of Secondary schools from 2008 through 2011

  • What is the difference between the colors of barrels? Blue barrels are for the pigs (all the food and beverage waste); Gray barrels for the trash (napkins, ketchup/mustard packets, corn dog/popsicle sticks, etc.)

  • When will the farmer come and pick up the food for the pigs? In the morning, every other day.

  • How can I volunteer at my school during breakfast and lunch?  Please contact your principal or the Food Waste Recycling Manager

  • Are there any cost avoidance or savings by recycling the food/beverage waste?  Approximately $40,000; once all of the schools are up and running.

  • Where will that money go?  Back into the district's General Fund
